EE: checking coverage and improving signal
EE's headline coverage is the UK's largest, but individual addresses still vary — here is how to check yours properly and fix weak spots.
Independence notice
Thirdgreenovo is an independent third-party information service. We are not affiliated with, authorised by, or acting for any network named on this page. Trade marks belong to their owners and identify the subject of guidance only. For account, billing or contract matters, contact your network's official customer service. Calls to our line are standard geographic rate and provide general guidance only.
Checking EE coverage
- Official EE checker — enter your full postcode and note 4G, 5G and 5G+ layers separately; they are different footprints.
- Ofcom's independent checker — the standardised cross-network comparison.
- Trial SIM — EE-hosted pay-as-you-go or short plans (including EE-hosted virtual brands such as 1pMobile) reveal genuine performance at your address.
Improving weak EE signal
- Wi-Fi Calling — EE has supported it widely for years; enable it in handset settings.
- 4G Calling — keep VoLTE on so voice rides the modern layer.
- Status check — use the official EE status tool to rule out mast maintenance before troubleshooting hardware.
- Position and materials — modern insulation blocks signal; a metre closer to a window can be the difference between one bar and four.
5G+ expectations
5G+ (standalone) is EE's newest layer and the smallest footprint of the three. Treat it as a bonus in covered urban areas rather than a promise everywhere — and judge the network at your address by its 4G/5G performance, which is what most usage rides on today.
