Guidance: giffgaff
General information about giffgaff — the community-run virtual network on O2 with no contracts and no call centres in the traditional sense.
About the network
giffgaff is a trade mark of its owner · Independent guidance only
giffgaff is built around rolling monthly "goodybags" rather than long contracts, and around a community-support model: most help comes from its online community and help pages rather than a traditional phone call centre. It runs on O2's infrastructure.
What the model means for you
- No traditional call centre. Support is primarily online — comfortable for self-servers, frustrating if you prefer phoning a human.
- No lock-in. Goodybags renew monthly and can be changed or stopped, which makes giffgaff a popular low-risk way to test O2-network coverage at your address.
- Coverage = O2. Check O2's postcode position before joining — see the O2 coverage guide.
Common questions
Is it safe to buy from a member's link?
giffgaff historically runs member-referral schemes. Only ever activate SIMs through the official giffgaff website or app, and never pay an individual for "activation help" — activation is free.
Keeping my number
Standard PAC process: text PAC to 65075 from your old SIM and enter the code in your giffgaff account during setup. Full detail in our switching guide.
